Yikes, we’re already in February 2022! 😱
December and January have flown by in the blink of an eye and I can pretty much summarise my life in those two months with one word – Chaos! Ballet performances with costumes to sew, Christmas prep, Home schooling and a third round of lockdown here in Norway, Christmas celebrations, New Years, Back to School, Covid-vaccine boosters with seriously funky side effects… you get the picture. 😬
During the last two weeks, I decided to get back into the swing of things though. I left 2021 on a high note having done a big chunk of my world-building and then finished my plotting / outlining / character profiling during the November NaNoWriMo. Just knowing it was done was the best feeling in the world!
Two months on from that point and I knew I had to have a good read-through. I made a few adjustments, because, hey, a lot happens in two months and turns out, what I thought sounded great in November was completely wacky at the end of January! 🤪 Then came February 1st…
Now, I’m not obsessive about New Year’s resolutions or making big changes happen on specific dates, but starting a new month doing something totally fresh and fun (for me) felt right. So I organised my office space, printed out and filed all my notes in a bunch of new folders… and then I began to write!
I still can’t quite believe I’ve actually started! It’s slow going just yet. I have to find a balance between allowing my brain to dwell on formulating the perfect sentence and just getting the words down on the screen, ready to edit later on. I can already see that this is going to take some practice! 😂
So far, I have most of my prologue written and re-written and I’m still seventh-guessing myself on the content, structure, tone etc. But, I’m writing! And that in itself is an amazing feeling even if it has to be re-written a dozen times before it’s publishable! I remember reading that J.K. Rowling rewrote the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone 15 times before she was happy with it. So I’ll cut myself some slack, and for now just be thrilled that I’m finally doing what I’ve been dreaming of for years!
